Short intro
Apex Power Supplies is a B2B energy wholesaler built for installers who need more than products.
Sandstone helped Apex build a scalable Shopify Plus platform that connects brand, commerce, customer data, B2B workflows and operational systems into one foundation for growth. The goal was not just to launch a webshop. It was to build a digital platform that supports installers, reduces internal workload and scales with Apex across markets.
Key results
350+ B2B customers onboarded in the first 6 months
Live in 8 weeks from strategy to launch
50% reduction in operational workload
Ready for NL, BE and international growth

Buildinga B2B platform from day one
Apex Power Supplies was founded by Jerry van Es and Sander Noordermeer, two entrepreneurs with deep experience in battery technology, solar energy, installations and the broader energy market.
They saw a clear gap in the market. Installers needed more than a supplier. They needed a partner that could support them with products, technical knowledge, training, installation support and a reliable digital buying experience.
Apex came to Sandstone with a clear ambition. Build a scalable B2B commerce platform that could support fast growth from day one.
There was no legacy platform to rebuild, but there were high expectations around performance, B2B functionality, operational control and international scalability.
In two months, we designed, built and launched a custom Shopify Plus platform that connects brand, commerce, customer data, order workflows and financial systems into one scalable foundation.
The challenge
Apex needed a platform that could do more than process online orders.
The business model is built around professional installers, customer specific pricing, payment terms, account approval, product availability, technical product data and operational workflows between Shopify, Exact Online, Payt and Mollie.
Shopify Plus was the right foundation because Apex needed native B2B functionality without creating unnecessary custom complexity. Custom building every workflow would have limited scalability and made the team too dependent on development for daily changes.
The platform had to be easy for the Apex team to manage themselves, while still supporting advanced B2B logic.
That meant setting up customer groups, price lists, catalogs, payment terms, company accounts, role based access, custom checkout logic and account level data in a way that could scale across the Netherlands, Belgium and international markets.

What we built
We created a full Shopify Plus B2B commerce setup for installers.
The platform includes customer specific catalogs, price lists, company accounts, B2B payment terms, checkout logic and a custom onboarding flow for new partners.
The onboarding flow supports Dutch companies through KVK lookup, Belgian companies through Kruispuntdatabank and international companies through manual review. This helps Apex collect better company data from the start and reduces missing names, addresses and contact details during onboarding.
We also connected Shopify with Exact Online, Payt and Mollie to support finance, order processing and customer account data.
Orders from Shopify are processed into Exact with the right company name, delivery method, delivery date, PO reference and VAT logic for NL and BE customers. Customer data such as Exact debtor number, open balance, credit limit and VAT number is synced daily and shown inside My Account.
The result is a platform where customers can order faster, see relevant account information and access both webshop orders and direct orders placed through phone, email or quote requests.
The impact
Apex now has a scalable B2B commerce platform that supports the way installers actually buy.
The platform combines a strong brand identity with operational workflows, customer data, self service account logic and integrations with financial systems. This reduces manual work for the internal team and gives customers more clarity around prices, orders, balances and account status.
More than 350 B2B customers were onboarded in the first 6 months. The platform launched in 8 weeks, in time to support the first customer onboarding after an international trade fair in Germany.
The My Account environment is becoming a key self service layer. Customers can see their company data, payment terms, credit limit, open balance and order history. Direct orders placed through email, phone or quote requests are also being added, so Apex is not limited to webshop order visibility only.
This creates less dependency on the internal sales team, fewer customer questions by phone or email and a stronger foundation for international growth.
Apex is not building a standard webshop. It is building a scalable B2B commerce ecosystem for installers, training, support, procurement and future dropshipment opportunities.
